New Challenges

Course Map - up and back = 50 miles.
So, as you can see, I haven't posted anything lately (of course, I'm not alone in that), but I thought I would take a second to talk about my next challenge.  The first of 2015, but the last of my 42nd year on earth.  Namely, I'll be running in the Bull Run Run this coming weekend.  My brother calls this the Fool Run Run, by the way.  Anyway, the BRR is a 50 mile, time-limited, trail race.  It starts at 6:30 am on April 11th and ends at 7:30 pm.  There are several checkpoints along the route, and if you don't hit them by allotted times you are DQ'd.

This is my first time running in this kind of race.  I'm not quite sure how I'll do given the fact that the thing that draws me to Tough Mudders (specifically, the camaraderie and obstacles) will be missing.  The thing that drew me to this is that if I'm going to challenge myself, I'm going to go big.  50 miles sounds ludicrous in 13 hours, given the fact that it took me nearly 24 hours to go 50 miles at WTM 2014.  However, the way I see it, the terrain will be challenging but I won't have to wait in lines, I won't really have to worry about pitting/changing clothes, and I won't have to worry about adding unofficial distance to the course by failing and obstacle.  All of that, plus the fact that I think I can maintain 12-15 minute miles the entire way, make me pretty confident that I'll succeed.  I'm not out there to win, I'm out there to finish.  If I can do that, then I think I can start legitimately aim for a 75-mile bib at WTM 2015.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to provide updates throughout the day on Saturday (unless something crazy happens), but I'll definitely put up the results of my race shortly after if I'm still alive.
